The short version

Caséta and RadioRA 3 in Plain Terms

Both are Lutron wireless lighting systems. Both replace the wall switches you have now. They differ in size, who sets them up, and what they are meant to control.

Caséta

Caséta is the smaller system. Dimmers and switches talk to a small hub, the Smart Bridge, that plugs into your router. You run it from the Lutron app, and it also works with Apple Home. It suits a few rooms or one floor.

RadioRA 3

RadioRA 3 is the whole-house system. It uses a central controller, keypads that replace banks of switches, and Lutron shades that join the lighting scenes. An installer programs it. See RadioRA 3.

Differences

Where They Differ

Size

Caséta is meant for a handful of rooms. RadioRA 3 is meant for most of the house.

Setup

Caséta setup is lighter. A small job is mostly swapping dimmers and setting up the hub. RadioRA 3 is programmed room by room and button by button.

Keypads and scenes

RadioRA 3 can replace a bank of switches with a single keypad and a few named scenes. Caséta scenes are set up in the app and run from the app, a remote or your voice.

Shades

Both run Lutron shades. RadioRA 3 is the better fit once there are shades in many rooms. See motorized shades.

Cost

Caséta costs less per room. A RadioRA 3 system typically costs roughly two to three times as much as a comparable Caséta setup, depending on the size of the home and the scope. The extra gets you keypads, more devices on one system and a professional install.

Real Atlanta jobs

Two Atlanta Caséta Proposals

These are two recent Caséta jobs from Atlanta homes, one small and one close to whole-house.

Four dimmers and a hub

Four Diva dimmers on recessed lighting, one accessory switch so the foyer lights can be hit from either end, a Smart Bridge PRO, and an hour of setup. See the Atlanta Caséta job.

About ten dimmers and a hub

A whole-house set of Diva dimmers on entry, stairs, kitchen, living room, primary bedroom, office and garage lights, a low-voltage dimmer for the undercabinet lighting, a plug-in lamp dimmer, and a Smart Bridge.

For a Lutron install in Buckhead, see the Buckhead dimmer and keypad job.

How to choose

Which One Fits Your House

Caséta is the better choice if you want a few rooms done well, you are comfortable with an app, and you may not keep adding. RadioRA 3 is the better choice if you want most of the house on one system, keypads in place of switch banks, and shades in the same scenes.

We tell you which one we would pick and why, even when that means the cheaper one. Start with the lighting and shades page, or look at RadioRA 3 installs in Atlanta and Buckhead.

FAQs

Caséta vs RadioRA 3 FAQ

Questions we get when people compare the two.

Is Caséta or RadioRA 3 better?
Neither is better in every house. Caséta fits a handful of rooms and costs less. RadioRA 3 fits a whole house with keypads, shades and more scenes, and an installer programs it. The right one depends on how many rooms, how many shades and how you want to control them.
Does Caséta work with Apple Home?
Yes. In the Caséta jobs we quote, the Smart Bridge links the dimmers to the Lutron app and to Apple Home, so the lights show up in Apple Home with everything else.
Can I start with Caséta and move to RadioRA 3 later?
You can, but Caséta and RadioRA 3 are separate Lutron systems, so the devices do not carry over. What carries over is the work done on the wall: the switch locations and wiring. If you think you will end up with a whole-house system, tell us at the start.
Which one is better for motorized shades?
Both can run Lutron shades. RadioRA 3 handles more shades and more scenes, so a house with a lot of windows usually fits it better. See our guide to motorized shades in Atlanta.
How much does each cost?
A RadioRA 3 system typically costs roughly two to three times as much as a comparable Caséta setup, depending on the size of the home and the scope. Your number depends on the count of dimmers and keypads, the type of lighting, whether shades are included and the wiring. We give you a written proposal after a walk-through.
Do you install both in Buckhead and Atlanta?
Yes. We install Caséta and RadioRA 3 across Atlanta, including Buckhead.

Type of work
Project photos (optional, but they help a lot)

Photos help us a lot. If you want the fastest, most accurate quote, send photos of the spaces or equipment you're asking about: the room, the wall where the TV goes, your current rack or router, the outside of the house.

Up to 15 photos, 25 MB each. iPhone (HEIC) photos are fine.

    Floor plans (optional)

If you have floor plans, send them. Plans let us do much more, and they often give us a near-instant idea of scope. Large files are fine.
