Earlier this month we told you to plan a wall spot for Apple's smart home screen but hold off on cutting drywall. Now it's real. On October 13, Apple announced Apple HomeView, and we finally know how it mounts.

What it is

HomeView is a 7-inch Liquid Retina screen that brings music, FaceTime and smart home control into one place. It comes two ways: a tabletop model with a domed speaker base for the kitchen counter or nightstand, and a separate wall-mounted model in space gray or silver. Pre-orders are open now, and both ship November 13.

It can recognize up to six people by face, so everyone gets their own home screen. From the screen or by voice you can view cameras, adjust the thermostat and lights, lock doors and close the blinds. The Home Camera face can stream up to nine camera feeds at once. It also listens for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and alerts your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.

It works with Apple's new Home Collection, a lineup of cameras, thermostats and a lock designed with LG and Schneider Electric. Apple says those start arriving in December, with some pieces in early 2027. HomeView also works with other Works with Apple Home and Matter gear, and it joins HomePod, HomePod mini and AirPlay speakers for music throughout the house.

The mounting answer

The wall model attaches with one of three Schneider Home mounts:

  • Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector, available to order now
  • Power Mount AC Wired, available to order now
  • Power Mount PoE Wired, coming in early 2027

Apple says you can install it yourself or have it professionally installed.

What to wire while the walls are open

Each mount needs something different behind the wall. The PoE mount runs on a single network cable that carries both power and data. The AC Wired mount needs electrical power at the spot, so that's a job for your electrician. Building or remodeling? Mark the spots on the plans (the entryway, the kitchen, a hallway), add backing, and pull a network cable to each one. Our prewire checklist covers the rest.

Fix your Wi-Fi first

A screen that runs the whole house is only as good as the network behind it. If the Wi-Fi is weak where the screen will hang, start there. More on whole-home Wi-Fi.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Timing, mounts, prewire and Wi-Fi.

When does Apple HomeView ship?
Apple opened pre-orders on October 13, 2026. Both the tabletop and wall-mounted models ship November 13.
How does the wall-mounted HomeView attach to the wall?
With one of three Schneider Home mounts: the Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector and the Power Mount AC Wired, both available to order now, and the Power Mount PoE Wired, coming in early 2027. Apple says you can install it yourself or have it professionally installed.
What should I wire for HomeView if my walls are open?
Pick the spots first: the entryway, the kitchen, a hallway. Then run a network cable to each one for the PoE mount, and ask your electrician about power if you want the AC Wired mount. Add backing so the mount has something solid to land on.
Does HomeView need good Wi-Fi?
Yes. Music, FaceTime, cameras and smart home control all run over your network. If the Wi-Fi is weak where the screen hangs, fix that first.

Type of work
Project photos (optional, but they help a lot)

Photos help us a lot. If you want the fastest, most accurate quote, send photos of the spaces or equipment you're asking about: the room, the wall where the TV goes, your current rack or router, the outside of the house.

Up to 15 photos, 25 MB each. iPhone (HEIC) photos are fine.

    Floor plans (optional)

If you have floor plans, send them. Plans let us do much more, and they often give us a near-instant idea of scope. Large files are fine.
