The drive to Lake Burton is long enough that you want the house already awake. Lutron scenes do that: path, entry, a room or two. Leaving is the reverse, one button before you lock the door, not a lap of the house.
Caséta is enough for a smaller cottage. RadioRA 3 fits a house with keypads and a dock or guest space that should share the same scenes. HomeWorks is the large-house system. We pick after we see the plan.
Shades When the Afternoon Is Too Bright
West-facing glass over the lake will wash out a room. Motorized shades on the same system as the lights fix that, and they give you a dark enough room for a movie without hunting for switches.
Outdoor lighting has to survive the same weather as the dock hardware. We do not spec an interior product and hope the eave is enough.
