A Home Theater Installer for Intown Atlanta

SoulCraft Systems is a home theater installer in Atlanta. Home theater installation in Atlanta, for us, means the city and the neighborhoods inside I-285: the walk-through, the design, the wire, the calibration and the lighting, done by the same people you call at the start. We hold Georgia Low Voltage License LVT305289 and North Carolina Special Restricted Fire Alarm/Low Voltage License SP.FA/LV.37584. Call (404) 590-7685.

Justin Vogel's background is theater work, including high-end projects in Los Angeles, before he founded SoulCraft here in 2010. This page is about intown and ITP houses. Buckhead already has a Buckhead page that ranks for theater work there. Custom home theater design in metro Atlanta covers the wider metro area, including Sandy Springs and the northern suburbs. If that is your house, start there. If the house is in the city, stay on this page.

The room

Home Theater Design in Atlanta: Dedicated Theater or Media Room

Home theater design in Atlanta starts with a plain question: is this room only for watching, or does it still have to be a family room? A dedicated theater can take controlled light, seating aimed at the screen, and acoustic treatment. A media room is a living room, bonus room or bedroom with a large screen and surround sound that still works on a Tuesday.

Custom home theater design in Atlanta is the same idea drawn for one house. Intown rooms were often built as parlors, bedrooms or additions. A long, narrow living room and a square bonus room do not want the same screen or the same speaker positions. We measure seating distance before we talk about a projector or a TV. Plenty of ITP houses are better as a strong media room than as a theater fighting the windows and the street. We will say that out loud.

Sony displays and projectors are what we put in front of clients. The rest of the house can share whole house audio in metro Atlanta if you want music outside the theater.

Inside the Perimeter

Neighborhoods We Install In

Intown Atlanta houses are a different job from a new basement in the northern suburbs. Midtown, Virginia-Highland, Morningside, Ansley Park, Inman Park, Old Fourth Ward, Grant Park and the westside often mean older framing, plaster, additions, and a room that was never drawn as a theater. Some have a partial basement. Some have a bonus room over the garage. Townhouses add rules about where a speaker or a projector can go.

We walk the room before we promise a layout. In a historic district we plan the wire so we are not opening walls that cannot be patched cleanly. See the Atlanta service area for the wider list, including Sandy Springs and Brookhaven, which are not what this page is about.

Sound and picture

Acoustics

We start with the room, not a package of panels. Speaker placement, seating distance and screen size are one decision, because moving the seats changes both the picture and the bass. Doors, stairs and a fireplace dictate where a speaker can actually go.

Acoustic treatment, when the room can take it, is placed for that room. In a shared media room we keep it visually quiet so the space still looks like the rest of the house. A windowless bonus room can take more. A street-facing living room in Midtown usually cannot, and the design should admit that.

Calibration

After the equipment is in, we calibrate it. That means speaker levels and distances, the subwoofer checked from the seats people use, and the display or projector set for the light in that room. A bright living room and a dark bonus room are not calibrated the same way. We do this before we call the job finished, and we show you the remote while we are still there.

Lights

Lighting That Belongs to the Theater

Theater lighting is part of the install. Lutron scenes can dim the room when the movie starts and bring the lights up for the credits. On a street-facing window, shades matter as much as the dimmers. We install that as lighting control in metro Atlanta, from a few rooms of Caséta up to RadioRA 3 when the whole house is on one system.

How it goes

How an Atlanta Theater Installation Goes

Call or the form

Tell us the neighborhood and what the room is used for now. Photos of the room and a floor plan help. We reply within one business day.

Walk-through

We measure seating distance, note windows and doors, and find a place for the equipment that is not a coat closet you still need.

Written quote

The theater is custom quoted. After the walk-through you get a written, line-itemed proposal for that room, and you can add or drop pieces before you commit. How we price.

Wire, then install

If the walls are open, we run speaker, network and video cable before drywall. If the house is finished, we use the attic, a basement or a closet and tell you where a wireless option is the better call.

Calibration and handoff

We calibrate the picture and the speakers, set the lighting scene, and walk through the remote before we leave. After that you call the same number.

New construction

Builders and Prewire

If you are building or gutting an intown house, call before drywall. Speaker locations, a rack, shade power and a path for the video cable are ordinary at framing and awkward after the paint. Builders can use our low-voltage prewire. Homeowners can start with the prewire checklist.

Custom home theater design for the rest of metro Atlanta, outside this intown scope, stays on the metro Atlanta theaters page.

FAQs

Home Theater Installation in Atlanta: Questions

Intown and ITP houses. For Buckhead, use the Buckhead page. For the wider metro area, use custom home theater design in metro Atlanta.

Who is a home theater installer in Atlanta?
SoulCraft Systems. We design and install home theaters and media rooms in Atlanta, and we have worked here since 2010. We hold Georgia Low Voltage License LVT305289 and North Carolina Special Restricted Fire Alarm/Low Voltage License SP.FA/LV.37584. Call (404) 590-7685.
Do you do home theater design in Atlanta?
Yes. Home theater design in Atlanta starts with the room: where people sit, how big the picture should be, where the speakers go, and how the light behaves. We do that before we order equipment.
What does custom home theater design in Atlanta include?
A walk-through, a layout for seating and the screen, speaker placement, acoustic treatment when the room can take it, lighting scenes, and calibration after the equipment is in. The work is custom quoted. How we price.
Should I build a dedicated theater or a media room?
A dedicated theater is a room used for watching, with controlled light and seating aimed at the screen. A media room is a family room or bonus room that still has to work on a weeknight. Many intown houses are better as a strong media room. We will say so if that is the case.
Do you install theaters in Buckhead and the rest of metro Atlanta?
Yes. Buckhead has its own page. Custom home theater design in metro Atlanta, including Sandy Springs and the northern suburbs, is on our theaters and media rooms page. This page is about the city and inside the Perimeter.
How do you handle acoustics in an older Atlanta house?
We start with the room shape, the seating distance and the windows. Speaker placement and screen size are decided together. Treatment, when we use it, is for that room. In a shared media room we keep it visually quiet so the room still looks like part of the house.
Do you calibrate the system after installation?
Yes. After install we set speaker levels and distances, check the subwoofer from the seats people actually use, and set the display or projector for the light in that room.
Can the lights dim when the movie starts?
Yes. Lutron scenes can dim the room for the movie and bring the lights back up afterward. Shades matter on street-facing windows. See lighting control in metro Atlanta.
When should a builder call about theater prewire?
Before drywall, ideally at framing. Speaker wire, a path for the video cable, a rack location and power for shades are much easier while the walls are open. See prewire for builders.
How much does a home theater in Atlanta cost?
Home theater installation in Atlanta is custom quoted. After a consult or walk-through you get a written, line-itemed proposal. How we price.
