Lake Rabun

Closer houses, older walls

Lake Rabun is not a smaller Lake Burton. The coves are tighter, many houses are closer together, and a lot of the originals are cottages that were added onto. You can see the neighbor's porch. Their Wi-Fi is in your airspace. A new mesh kit with a default name does not fix a cottage with plank walls and a dock staircase. Call (706) 982-3327. Licenses: Georgia LVT305289 and North Carolina SP.FA/LV.37584.

We put a few access points on purpose, on cable where the attic allows it, and we set them so they are not shouting over the cove. The dock is a separate hop: it is lower, it is wetter, and it is where people actually stand with a phone. If the stairs are stone and there is no conduit, we say so and use a radio link instead of pretending we can fish a staircase.

Checking the house from Atlanta

Lakemont is the town at the foot of the lake. The road in is narrow. You are not driving up to reboot a router on a Thursday. Network Care is $24.99 a month for a home and includes remote login help. A simple refresh is two to four hours at $149 an hour plus a $50 trip charge, once we are there. See networking and Wi-Fi.

Lake Burton's version of this problem is Burton networking. The Rabun overview is Lake Rabun, and the smart-home page is smart home on Lake Rabun. Read lake house Wi-Fi for the comparison.

FAQs

Lake Rabun network questions

Why is Wi-Fi messy in a Rabun cove?
Houses sit closer together, so you hear the neighbors' networks, and the cottage walls were not built for a single router.
Can you reach a dock down a stone stair?
Usually with a radio link, not by fishing the staircase. We say so on site.
How do we check the house from Atlanta?
Network Care is $24.99 a month for a home, with remote monitoring and remote login help.

FAQs

Questions from Highlands, NC Homeowners

Highlands overview · Home automation · Lighting · Theater design

Do you install home theaters in Highlands, NC?
Yes. We design and install dedicated theaters and media rooms in Highlands. The project is custom quoted after we walk the house. We do not publish a price range.
Where does the equipment go?
In a dry, conditioned closet. Highlands houses deal with damp summers and cold winters, and many sit empty. An unheated crawl space is a bad place for a rack.
Is a TV mount the same thing?
No. A straightforward TV installation is a service call at $149 an hour plus a $50 trip charge, and a typical mount takes one to two hours. A theater or a media room is a larger, custom-quoted project.
Who do I call?
Call Ryan at (706) 982-3327, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Type of work
Project photos (optional, but they help a lot)

Photos help us a lot. If you want the fastest, most accurate quote, send photos of the spaces or equipment you're asking about: the room, the wall where the TV goes, your current rack or router, the outside of the house.

Up to 15 photos, 25 MB each. iPhone (HEIC) photos are fine.

    Floor plans (optional)

If you have floor plans, send them. Plans let us do much more, and they often give us a near-instant idea of scope. Large files are fine.
