Lake House Wi-Fi at Lake Burton and Lake Rabun

The house, the dock, and an empty week. Two lakes, two different failures. Call Ryan at (706) 982-3327.

Lake house Wi-Fi fails in a specific way. The router is in the kitchen, the porch is fine, and the dock is a dead zone. Or the cove never got cable, so the internet itself is the problem and no access point will invent it. SoulCraft Systems works these two lakes from the North Georgia office. This is the practical version. The service pages are Lake Burton networking and Lake Rabun networking.

Burton: distance to the water

On Lake Burton the lot is often long. Lakemont, Tiger, and Clayton addresses, then a house, then a walk to a boathouse. One router covers the rooms nearest to it. The dock needs its own link: cable if the path is sane, a point-to-point radio if you are looking at granite. We do not sell the idea of Wi-Fi shot across the lake. Starlink is what we use when the cove has no cable. The overview is Lake Burton.

Rabun: older cottages, closer neighbors

Lake Rabun coves pack houses together. You are sharing air with the next porch, and the walls may be old plank and additions. The dock is usually closer than a Burton dock and much steeper to reach. Fishing cable down a stone stair is often a no. A radio hop to a weatherproof access point at the dock is the usual answer. See Lake Rabun and Lakemont.

What a small job costs, and what it does not

If the cable is already in the house and we are only replacing tired gear and placing access points, a typical refresh takes two to four hours at $149 an hour plus a $50 trip charge. Network Care is $24.99 a month for a home, $49.99 for a business, and it is how we look in while you are back in Atlanta. Members get 10% off labor on service calls. A new trench, Starlink install, or a run to a dock is not that hourly visit. It is a quote after we see the path.

Cameras ride the same network

A doorbell and a camera on the drive are only useful if the network is up when you are not there. See cameras and security. The general networking page is networking and Wi-Fi.

FAQs

Lake Wi-Fi questions

Will a mesh kit in the kitchen cover the dock?
Almost never. Mesh hops lose speed, and a dock is downhill, outside, and often blocked by the house itself. The dock needs its own link back to the router.
Is Lake Rabun the same design as Lake Burton?
No. Burton is usually distance from the house to the water. Rabun is tighter coves, older cottages, and more interference from nearby houses.
Can you check the network while we are in Atlanta?
Yes. Network Care is remote monitoring and remote login help, $24.99 a month for a residence.

FAQs

Questions from Highlands, NC Homeowners

Highlands overview · Home automation · Lighting · Theater design

Do you install home theaters in Highlands, NC?
Yes. We design and install dedicated theaters and media rooms in Highlands. The project is custom quoted after we walk the house. We do not publish a price range.
Where does the equipment go?
In a dry, conditioned closet. Highlands houses deal with damp summers and cold winters, and many sit empty. An unheated crawl space is a bad place for a rack.
Is a TV mount the same thing?
No. A straightforward TV installation is a service call at $149 an hour plus a $50 trip charge, and a typical mount takes one to two hours. A theater or a media room is a larger, custom-quoted project.
Who do I call?
Call Ryan at (706) 982-3327, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Type of work
Project photos (optional, but they help a lot)

Photos help us a lot. If you want the fastest, most accurate quote, send photos of the spaces or equipment you're asking about: the room, the wall where the TV goes, your current rack or router, the outside of the house.

Up to 15 photos, 25 MB each. iPhone (HEIC) photos are fine.

    Floor plans (optional)

If you have floor plans, send them. Plans let us do much more, and they often give us a near-instant idea of scope. Large files are fine.
