Lake glass faces the water, which is also the sun. By mid-afternoon the great room is a glare box and the TV is a mirror. Motorized shades are how that room stays usable, and how you get privacy when a boat idles in the cove. SoulCraft installs Lutron shades and ties them to the same keypad as the lights.

Battery or wired

Battery shades go into a finished cottage without opening the wall. That fits a lot of Lake Rabun houses and any Burton house you are not renovating. Wired power is the better long-term answer when the walls are open on a new build or a gut. We look at each window and say which one it is. We do not publish a per-window price. The count, the size, and the power path are the quote.

The two lakes

Burton houses often have a taller glass wall and a longer view. Rabun cottages often have smaller openings and older trim, where a battery shade is the one that does not wreck the casing. What shades are not

They are not bug screens, and they are not a porch enclosure. Interior shades cut glare, UV, and sightlines. Exterior sun and insects are a different trade. If the theater is the room with the glare, see Lake Rabun home theater or Lake Burton home theater.

FAQs

Lake shade questions

Can you add shades without renovating?
Yes. Battery-powered Lutron shades mount in the window. Wired power is what we prefer when the walls are already open.
Will shades give me privacy from the cove?
Interior shades block the view into the room. They are not a fence and they are not a solution for a porch.
Do you list shade prices?
No. Window count, size, and whether power has to be fished are the factors. You get a quote after we see them.
Who do I call for a lake house?

FAQs

Questions from Highlands, NC Homeowners

Highlands overview · Home automation · Lighting · Theater design

Do you install home theaters in Highlands, NC?
Yes. We design and install dedicated theaters and media rooms in Highlands. The project is custom quoted after we walk the house. We do not publish a price range.
Where does the equipment go?
In a dry, conditioned closet. Highlands houses deal with damp summers and cold winters, and many sit empty. An unheated crawl space is a bad place for a rack.
Is a TV mount the same thing?
No. A straightforward TV installation is a service call at $149 an hour plus a $50 trip charge, and a typical mount takes one to two hours. A theater or a media room is a larger, custom-quoted project.
Who do I call?
Call Ryan at (706) 982-3327, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Type of work
Project photos (optional, but they help a lot)

Photos help us a lot. If you want the fastest, most accurate quote, send photos of the spaces or equipment you're asking about: the room, the wall where the TV goes, your current rack or router, the outside of the house.

Up to 15 photos, 25 MB each. iPhone (HEIC) photos are fine.

    Floor plans (optional)

If you have floor plans, send them. Plans let us do much more, and they often give us a near-instant idea of scope. Large files are fine.
