Lake Rabun

The room is usually the living room

Lake Rabun houses are often smaller and older than the new places on Lake Burton. A lot of them are cottages that grew, with a stone fireplace, a porch, and one room that has to be the living room on Saturday and the movie room that night. A dedicated theater happens when there is a lower level you can give up. We will tell you which one you have. SoulCraft Systems, North Georgia, since 2010. Georgia license LVT305289 and North Carolina license SP.FA/LV.37584.

Afternoon light off the water is the first design problem. A projector aimed at a wall of glass is a disappointment at 4 PM. Shades, or a TV instead of a projector, are part of the plan, not an accessory. See lighting and shades on Lake Rabun and shades for lake houses.

The equipment has to sit in a dry, conditioned closet. These houses close up for weeks. An unheated crawl space under a cottage is a bad rack location. When you come back, one remote should turn the room on. Guests should not need a briefing.

Fireplace and TV wall framed during a Rabun County new-build prewire

Wire it before the stone goes up

The photo is from a new-build prewire in Rabun County, near Clayton: the fireplace wall while it was still open. It is not a finished Lake Rabun theater. It is the moment the TV location gets power and cable, which is the same moment we want on a Lake Rabun rebuild. The project page is the Rabun County prewire.

In a finished cottage we fish from the attic and closets and we stop when the plaster or the paneling would have to come apart for a small gain.

Not the same job as Lake Burton

Burton houses are often larger, with a real lower level and a longer dock. Rabun coves are tighter, the road is narrower, and more of the houses are renovations. The theater page for the other lake is Lake Burton home theater. The Rabun overview is Lake Rabun, and the smart-home page is smart home on Lake Rabun.

The metro design page, if you also have a house in town, is dedicated theaters and media rooms. What changes a theater quote, without any dollar figures, is on what drives home theater cost. A plain TV mount is a service call: one to two hours is typical, at $149 an hour plus a $50 trip charge. A theater is custom quoted.

Call Ryan at (706) 982-3327, Mon–Fri 9 AM–5 PM. The Atlanta office is (404) 590-7685 if the other house is in town.

FAQs

Lake Rabun theater questions

Is a Lake Rabun theater usually a separate room?
Often it is the living room, because the house is a cottage. A lower level can be a dedicated room if you can give it up. We say which one fits after we see it.
Do you publish a price?
No. The theater is custom quoted. A plain TV mount is a service call, typically one to two hours at $149 an hour plus a $50 trip charge.
Where should the equipment live?
In a dry, conditioned closet. A damp crawl space under a cottage is a bad rack location, especially when the house sits empty.
Who do I call?

FAQs

Questions from Highlands, NC Homeowners

Highlands overview · Home automation · Lighting · Theater design

Do you install home theaters in Highlands, NC?
Yes. We design and install dedicated theaters and media rooms in Highlands. The project is custom quoted after we walk the house. We do not publish a price range.
Where does the equipment go?
In a dry, conditioned closet. Highlands houses deal with damp summers and cold winters, and many sit empty. An unheated crawl space is a bad place for a rack.
Is a TV mount the same thing?
No. A straightforward TV installation is a service call at $149 an hour plus a $50 trip charge, and a typical mount takes one to two hours. A theater or a media room is a larger, custom-quoted project.
Who do I call?
Call Ryan at (706) 982-3327, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Project photos (optional, but they help a lot)

Photos help us a lot. If you want the fastest, most accurate quote, send photos of the spaces or equipment you're asking about: the room, the wall where the TV goes, your current rack or router, the outside of the house.

Up to 15 photos, 25 MB each. iPhone (HEIC) photos are fine.

    Floor plans (optional)

If you have floor plans, send them. Plans let us do much more, and they often give us a near-instant idea of scope. Large files are fine.
